Abstract
The study aimed to explore the long-term impact of softball on former players who transitioned into roles as coaches, trainers, and national athletes. Through in-depth interviews as the data generation method, the researcher was able to derive the following findings. Transitioning from player to leader (coach, trainer, or mentor) helped participants embrace personal growth, teamwork, and leadership despite doubts. Dedication, patience, and love for the sport shaped their new identities. For many, softball was more than a game—it became a bridge to education and financial stability, especially for those from humble beginnings. Challenges included balancing roles as teachers, students, coaches, and parents, often leading to burnout and self-doubt. Transitions demanded patience, authority, and professionalism. Yet, triumphs such as championships, awards, and representing the country fueled pride and motivation. Success extended beyond trophies, reflecting growth, recognition, and inspiring others to achieve their goals. Softball became a way of life that instilled discipline, resilience, teamwork, and confidence, extending into education and community leadership. Transitioning was not always easy, but family, coaches, and friends sustained them. Softball provided purpose, opportunities, and stability. More than a personal journey, it became a way to leave a lasting legacy beyond the field, and this study may serve as a foundation for future research on how softball supports education, leadership, and community development. The study recommends using this study as a foundation for examining how sports, particularly softball, can shape education, leadership, and community development.
