Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of text messaging among the high school students of Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology, San Isidro Campus in their spelling skills. Also, to determine the relationship between their socio-demographic profile to the influence of text messaging on their spelling skills. A descriptive research design and total sampling were used. A questionnaire was utilized to collect data which was composed of the profile, questions regarding their reasons for using text messaging, and the influence of text messaging on their spelling skills. Permission to conduct and informed consent were obtained. Data were analyzed using various statistical tools. The majority of the respondents agree with the different reasons stated why they compose a text message. They also agree that composing text message influence their spelling skills and the relationship between their profile to their perception of the influence of composing text message were not significant. Therefore, further research is required to determine the long-term effects of text message composition on students' spelling abilities and what may be done to mitigate those effects.
